Meeting Room at ‘The Didsbury’

March 12th, 2015

The next meeting will be in Didsbury again at ‘The Didsbury’ in the upstairs meeting room beginning at 1900 hrs. The meeting is sponsored by Orthofix and will be followed by a meal. Postcode is M20 2SG for satnav users, and The Didsbury is at the junction of Wilmslow Road and Stenner Lane, next to Fletcher Moss Park. Bring cases to discuss.



Meeting Room at Ghurka Grill, Didsbury

November 13th, 2014

The next meeting will be in West Didsbury again beginning at 1900 hrs. We will discuss a paper on high grade tibial plateau fractures and clinical cases. The meeting is sponsored by Biocomposites and will be followed by a meal at the restaurant underneath the meeting room. Postcode is M20 1LH for satnav users. Parking is difficult on the street - try the Cooperative car park as it is only 1 min walk away.

This meeting will involve discussing clinical cases, as well as a mini-journal club. This meeting is sponsored by Orthofix. It will begin at 1900 and be followed by a meal at the restaurant underneath the meeting room.



Basic External Fixation Course

March 2014

The external fixation course was fully subscribed again. The feedback was very positive. The delegates learned about applying emergency monolateral fixation for tibial fractures, pelvic fractures, pilon fractures and wrist fractures. They also learned about plastic surgery for tibial fractures. We welcomed new faculty to the course including Miss Bose from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, and Mr Lewis from Cardiff.




The next course will be on September 13th 2014. It is sponsored by Stryker, who manufacture the Hoffman Monolateral Fixator that we use.


Royal Manchester Childrens’ Hospital

December 2013


In this meeting, at the Childrens’ Hospital, we discussed clinical cases and xrays from the conflict in Syria, following the return of one of the MANTRA members from a two week aid mission.

Basic External Fixation Course

Sept 2013

The MANTRA external fixation course was oversubscribed.  Trainees came from apart as Aberdeen and South Wales to attend as well as many local trainees. The feedback was very positive from the trainees.




The course covered the emergency external fixation for a tibia, pilon, wrist and pelvis. We also had a plastic surgeon joining us to talk about skin grafts and flaps. The next course will be in March 2014.


Royal Manchester Childrens’ Hospital

July 2013


At this meeting, we discussed interesting cases focussing on transitional patients between the paediatric service and the adult service.


Basic External Fixation Course

Jan 2013


The MANTRA external fixation course was fully subscribed, and attended by trainees from as far apart as Dundee and Southampton. The feedback from the trainees was very positive.

The course covered the application of the emergency monolateral fixator for open tibial fractures, pelvic fractures, pilon fractures and wrist fractures.

Royal Manchester Childrens’ Hospital

September 2012


This meeting was held at the Children’s Hospital on 27th September. The main focus of the meeting was infection, although we discussed some complex trauma cases as well. These cases will be posted on the password gated forum.

The meeting was sponsored by Biocomposites, who manufacture Stimulan.

At our first meeting, we discussed interesting and perplexing cases for two hours. It was a rewarding and successful first  meeting.
